Kathryn started her career as a primary teacher teaching across the whole age range. She then worked in a Local Authority, first as an Advisory Teacher, then as a Consultant for Primary Mathematics. She supported schools in the development of Primary Mathematics and wider Teaching and Learning by working, within individual schools, with management, whole staff and individual teachers. She also provided training centrally for staff from all schools. She joined “The National Strategies” as a Primary Advisor for Mathematics and worked across the 12 North East Local Authorities to improve Local Authority and school outcomes.
She has extensive strategic Governance experience, first as chair of a small rural primary then for approximately the last 25 years, as a school governor of a middle school, where for the last 7 years she has been the Chair. She was asked to join the governing body of a primary school in special measures, and also chaired this governing body for 4 years.
She has a very good knowledge of the changing education landscape and the implications and issues that impact on schools.
