I have worked for both the Catholic Church and the Church of England gaining a degree in Theology from Durham University. I taught for five years in Primary Education before becoming a Head Teacher in 2010. I then worked as a Local Leader of Education in North Tyneside, joining the Diocese as a Consultant in 2014 alongside my role as Head Teacher. This involved working closely with leaders in other schools to support school effectiveness and improve standards. In 2015 I became the Diocesan Director of Education working across both the Church of England Diocese of Durham and the Diocese Newcastle.
Between the two Dioceses we have 102 schools educating over twenty-five thousand children, ranging from those in remote rural communities to deprived inner city areas. I work to implement the Diocesan Board’s vision for education supporting schools to enable all children to reach their fullest potential. As part of my role I am also the CEO of the Durham Diocesan MAT which started with three schools last year and is on track to grow to seven schools by the end of the current academic year.
My most important job is being a dad to my three boys and in my spare time I catch and ring mute swans for a local study in the North East.
